Pereira, Young jump into title mix with wins at Invicta FC 35

New title contenders emerged at Invicta FC 35, as Kaitlin Young and Viviane Pereira continued to climp toward the top of the ladder in their respective divisions.

Young stopped Faith McMah via TKO in the third round of action, and immediately called for a title shot at 145 pounds. With Felicia Spencer vacating the Invicta FC belt with her recent UFC call-up, Young is clearly next in line for a championship opportunity. The only question is who her opponent will be.

As for Pereira, she scored a unanimous-decision win over Alesha Zappitella. The victory should earn her a title fight against Jihn Yu Frey sometime later this year.

And in the Invicta FC 35 main event, Karina Rodriguez picked up a decision win over DeAnna Bennett. With the victory, Rodriguez is now the No. 1 contender to fight for the promotion’s flyweight world title. She’ll take on Vanessa Porto later this year.

The fight between Bennett and Rodriguez was a rematch, as the ladies first locked horns back in March of 2018. That night, Bennett walked away with her hand raised, eking out a split-decision. But at Invicta FC 35, with a flyweight title opportunity at stake, Rodriguez coasted to a judges’ decision.

In other action, Kanako Murata was victorious in her promotional debut. Elsewhere, Chelsea Chandler stopped Brittney Victoria with strikes in the second frame. With Murata and Chandler both winning, CSA Gym went 2-0 on the night.

Additionally, Kelly D’Angelo took another step forward in the atomweight division, edging a scrappy Jillian DeCoursey.
