Invicta FC 36: Ottolino explains why she’s skipping trash talk in lead up to Cawley fight

Julia Ottolino likes to stir the pot. It says on her Twitter profile that she’s a “professional s**t talker,” and she famously called Chelsea Chandler a “douche” immediately following Invicta FC 35.

And since she’s facing Megan Cawley — a fellow bantamweight with a knack for smack-talk — in her professional debut at Invicta FC 36, fans were expecting a war of words between the ladies leading up to fight night.

Unfortunately, the buildup won’t be as personal and dramatic as expected. Cawley told That MMA Show that she prefers to let her fists do the talking, and Ottolino chimed in with some classy words as well.

“I was trying to call out Chelsea Chandler for being a douche,” Ottolino said of an Instagram post she made following the last Invicta event, that mentioned both Cawley and the Stockton scrapper.

In that post, she called out Chandler while also mentioning that Cawley doesn’t want her “smoke.” Ottolino clarified the situation, telling That MMA Show that she really just meant to agitate Chandler. It was nothing against Cawley.

“She actually didn’t reply at all, which I thought was funny,” Ottolino said of Chandler. “Unlike her, Megan replied and we both went on a sharing frenzy.”

Ottolino and Cawley’s social media sharing frenzy caught the eyes of Invicta FC’s matchmaking team. Next thing you know, they were paired to fight each other at Invicta FC 36, which goes down Aug. 9 in Kansas City, Kan.

“Without her responding and going on that sharing frenzy that I mentioned, we both might have still been waiting for our Invicta FC debut,” Ottolino explained. “I have to say I appreciate it, and her. We both need each other for this opportunity. There’s no other way to look at it.”

How will the fight play out? Ottolino believes Cawley will rely heavily on her grappling.

“I know she is a wrestler,” she noted. “I respect my opponents. I sure hope she is working her a** off. You have to appreciate anyone willing to go through a fight camp and step into the cage.

“We both are in each other’s way. May the best woman win.”

Ottolino vs. Cawley kicks off the Invicta FC 36 fight card, which streams live and exclusively on UFC Fight Pass.
