Published by: Alex Minor

9/25/19- It is a sad day in MMA as mixed martial arts veteran, Katy “Red Dragon” Collins has passed away due to complications of an aneurysm. Born in Marked Tree, Kansas and fighting out of Branson, Missouri, Collins had a professional record of 7-5, with bouts in franchises including RFA, Bellator, and most recently, LFA.

According to a GoFundMe page created by her friends and family, Collins was hospitalized due to an aneurysm she had suffered on September 20, 2019. This GoFundMe page was erected with hopes of providing financial support to Collins during her recovery from the incident. However, Collins’ coach, JT Tilley, broke the tragic news of Collins’ passing through Facebook on September 25, 2019: https://www.facebook.com/1237050185/posts/10216275745346423?sfns=mo. JT Tilley’s post reads as follows: “The fight is over. You never stopped fighting and we never gave up on you. Just wasn’t in the cards.

…I’ve always been so proud of you Kate. We did it. I was honored to be able to live you your dream with you. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I will miss you more than the world will ever know.”

Katy “Red Dragon” Collins shall surely be missed by her peers, and the community of St. Louis at large. Her death has not been directly linked to head trauma at this time. However, her passing should also serve as a sad reminder of the health risks fighters are exposed to on a daily basis.
